To that Big Sofa in the Sky....

Yesterday we lost our old friend, or in my case, nemesis, Nico.  It was very sudden, actually a matter of 30 minutes and he was gone.  It all started Friday night when I noticed blood spots on our bedroom carpet.  The blood was in the area where Nico usually slept.  I checked him out and saw a raw spot on his hip.  We decided that we would wait until the morning and take him to our vet.

Saturday morning rolled around and Josh when out to get Nico.  The yard looked like a massacre, blood all over.  Josh took him to the vet and the vet shaved his back end.  Turns out he had a massive tumor.  The tumor broke through the skin and must have burst last night.  The vet put him down right away.  The entire trip to the vet lasted about 30 minutes.  It was crazy how fast he was gone.
I wish we would have noticed the tumor earlier but he was so fuzzy, you couldn't see anything until it broke through the skin.  I hate that he was in pain.
Nico and I had a love hate relationship. Actually, he never cared about many people in general. He was a loner.  He liked Josh but just barely tolerated the rest of us.  I have to say, the feeling was mutual. My dislike for this dog started when he bit Grady in the face.  Enough said!
He hated the boys and only came in when they were in bed.  He constantly growled at them.  As you can see, I didn't shed a tear.  Josh, on the other hand, was sad.  After all, they were buddies.
So, bye, Nico.  I hope you are nice to people in doggie heaven.  My guess is that you will be sitting on a sofa, being grumpy and growling at anyone that comes near.  I wish you well.
