Groundhog Day

Happy Groundhog Day! At Chimney Rock Park, Grady the Groundhog (yes, that is his name) didn't see his shadow so Spring is on the way!! We went to see the famous rodent on his special day. My dad had never been to Chimney Rock so we gave him the grand tour. It was a beautiful day, while the rest of the country was covered with snow, we had 50 degree weather. A perfect day to head to the park.

Grady the Groundhog. Isn't he adorable? Emily just got him from a rehabilitator as he was hit by a car. Poor little baby has some brain damage and can't be released into the wild. He has found a wonderful home at Chimney Rock....and in Emily's guest bedroom.

Grady was very excited to meet Grady.

Not many little boys get to play with groundhogs! It was pretty fun.

Enjoying the beautiful weather.

Grady was giving Myles the rundown on handling snakes. In this pic he was telling him, "pet him from his head to his tail". Myles soaks in everything Grady says.

Papaw assisting Myles with some snake handling. Myles was saying, "I no squish him". For some reason, I didn't quite believe him.

Grady and Wilbur, best buddies.

Emily took the box turtle out for the boys to play with.

Some more instructions from big brother.

The boys got to see Lousia again. The last time we saw her was in July. For those of you who follow our blog, you might remember her being a cute little handful. She has grown quite a bit since then.

You have to admit she is cute!

Mimi wasn't too sure about petting the possum....

But she finally gave it a shot.

Heading back to the car after a fun day of playing with wildlife.

  1. How fun! I'm with your mom about petting the opossum. I used to hate feeding them at the rehab center. Mean little things!
